Device management with Intune and Apple Business Manager for a company with field staff

Most staff work in the field on construction sites and rarely come into the office. As the company grew, new iPhones, Android devices and laptops kept arriving. Every device was set up by hand and every line-of-business application installed individually. That took time, and when someone left it was not always clear where company data was still stored.

I set up device management with Apple Business Manager and Intune so iPhones enrol automatically the first time they are switched on. Android devices come in through zero-touch enrolment straight from the mobile provider, and laptops were brought under management. I packaged the line-of-business applications, from CAD through PDF tools to Citrix and Power BI, for central deployment. Groups assign them, licences included. On top of that come configuration profiles, compliance rules and monitoring that flags devices needing attention.

New devices are set up through a prepared process, applications and updates are delivered centrally, and onboarding and offboarding run through group assignments. The status of every device can be seen in one place. Support has continued since 2022, and individual staff requirements are still taken into account.
