A group of companies at one site: shared infrastructure, Microsoft 365 and separate access for four firms

Four companies in the trades and services share one site. They used the same network and servers with no separation between them; mailboxes sat at a web host, and the phone system needed replacing. The IT had to provide shared services while keeping each company’s access separate.

I first drew up a network concept with its own area for each company and then built it: new servers with central user management, a firewall with separate zones per company, a new network and Wi-Fi. Mailboxes and files moved in waves from the web host to Microsoft 365, with protection against phishing and malware in front. I carried out the server move, including migrating every workstation into the new domain, on site in a single day, from half past eight in the morning to half past nine at night, so everyone could work normally the next morning. A cloud phone system connected to the Microsoft 365 address book and a backup server followed.

Each company has its own network area on shared infrastructure. Email, files and telephony run on Microsoft 365 and the cloud phone system, and the environment is documented. The work took place in 2024 and 2025; ongoing support is agreed until 2027.
